dear baby // week 36

Dear baby,

Since you've been growing inside me, we've put up two full-scale musical theatre productions together and a third one opens tonight. One for each trimester, kiddo. When You're a Good Man Charlie Brown performed last August I didn't know you were already in the works- we wouldn't find out for another week or so after the final performance- but you were! Then, there was Annie last December and this weekend is Seussical. I hope you haven't minded all the singing and dancing. I've tried to take it easy this go-around, but its hard for me not to jump up and dance with the cast- maybe you'll be born with great rhythm because of it?

In Seussical there is a beautiful lullaby that has prompted me to hug you a little bit closer during the last two rehearsals. Sooner than I can fathom you'll be out here in my arms and I'll be singing it to you myself- "I have a picture of how it will be / On the day I do, troubles will be through / And I'll be home with you..." It is still nearly impossible for me to imagine it.

And yet, you're estimated due date is a mere four weeks away. FOUR WEEKS! Never mind that I've had a feeling all along you're going to make your debut early- Easter weekend, perhaps? In which case it could be just a couple weeks until we celebrate your very first, Happy 0 Years!, birthday. Your day of BIRTH. Man oh man- there is no way we could ever be ready for all that means. Will you be patient with us little one? I promise that we will do our best, give of ourselves as deeply as we can, and love you as honestly as we know how. Still though, I know we will fail so, please be patient with us baby. Help us learn how to be parents.

I love you.

Love, mom
