dear baby // week 35

Dear baby,

We had to say goodbye to Grammy this week little one. She was 93 years old, born in 1920!, and full of spunk right to the end. She meant so much to your daddy and she was the very first family member he introduced me to back when we started dating. We both admired her a lot- her strength and humor, her bold independence, her faith and commitment to making the world a better place in whatever small ways she was able. We would have loved for you to to have met in person, but she did see your first photo the last time we visited her and we know she already loved you and prayed for you, even though she wasn't ever able to hold you.

In the midst of saying goodbye to Grammy, your presence was a beautiful reminder of the cycle of life. Your tiny beginning, the potential for all you will become- these things were pushed right up against Grammy's final breaths, as we remembered all her life held and who she was to so many people. Life is beautiful baby. It is awesome to celebrate someone who has lived it vibrantly and I can't wait for how you will make our lives all the richer with your presence too. And don't worry- we will tell you stories about Grammy when you're old enough to laugh with us in celebration of who she was. She's part of your story, part of our family history.

You're getting bigger and bigger baby. I hadn't seen myself in a full length mirror for a few days and was startled to see how we'd grown when I caught a glimpse at us this afternoon. My belly is so big and round! I am so very pregnant with you! You shake and rattle my belly to the point of distraction and often leave me literally breathless. And I love you- I love the beautiful distraction that you are..

Love, mom
