inhuman

My brother ran yet another marathon this weekend. I always thought I wanted to run a marathon someday. Yet, the more I cheer on my brother, the less I have any desire to run one myself. I must have run at least one vicariously at this point, right?

My sister also ran another 5K- she's joining the league of runners in my family- and my neice and nephew ran their second ever race. Katie El elbowed back and forth with a little boy about her age, all the way to the finish line of their 50 meter dash. As I watched her turn the corner and sprint to the finish, I realized just how much like my brother she is- thoughful and introspective, competetive and passionate. She may have a running career in her future- more marathons I can experience vicariously, and not run myself!

Also- you should have seen the little boy she beat out for first place. He stopped once she crossed the finish, as if being beat at all meant it wasn't worth even finishing. He totally didn't see Katie coming.
