I look forward.

I just read My Name is Rachel Corrie for my Theatre in Human Rights class. I don't care about where you stand on the Israel-Palestine conflict. Within my own family there are strong opinions on both sides. Regardless, the story of Rachel Corrie is a moving one, and not because it tells which side is right and which side is evil. There isn't a black and white. The reality is that Rachel Corrie lost her life- at 23- for a cause for which she felt convicted, but for which she did not intend to die. I find her incredibly honest and brave.

So, for today, a Rachel Corrie quote I've been mulling. I'm thankful to have read a bit of her story, and I am sad that the world lost her passionate spirit so early: I look forward to seeing more and more people willing to resist the direction the world is moving in: a direction where our personal experiences are irrelevant, that we are defective, that our communities are not important, that we are powerless, that the future is determined, and that the highest level of humanity is expressed through what we choose to buy at the mall.
