We had a weekend full of family. It was full of funny things too. Saturday night, for instance, held a magic show straight out of vaudeville. We were all transported to another era while watching this 35-years-&-running, magic "spectacular." The best parts were the most random: someone in a full tiger suit dancing in the wings, elderly men in shirtless costumes, elderly women clad in sequins, and lots of so-unfortunate-its-awesome choreography. I've never been to a magic show, and I think Le Grand David was the best one to break in with.
Sunday morning we brought my brother to our favorite diner; tiny and full of locals. We sat at the "bar," just inches away from the cooks. In place of liquor there are huge stovetops, and instead of mixing drinks they poach eggs and pour plate-sized pancakes. Stevie got the steak bomb omelet, I got the Franciscan benedict, and Jake got the hot italian sausage omelet. We all drank bottomless cups of black coffee and left with bellies chock full. Which was perfect because we were about to hike all that breakfast away at the Middlesex Fells. It was a beautiful, sunny Sunday and our 5 mile hike was full of catching up and conversation. There were other things to- a staff dinner at our apartment on Friday night with a beautifully set table (if I do say so myself), a walk and dinner on Saturday with more family, martinis at a jazz bar with my brother after the magic show, my niece's FOURTH birthday party on Monday (HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATIE!). Like I said, it was a weekend full of family. I love family.
