a lovely evening, and a recipe too

Sometimes I wash dishes to warm my hands
Sometimes I do that more than once in one evening.
Sometimes we carve pumpkins.
Correction: sometimes we carve A pumpkin and share.
One side for husband. One side for wife.

Sometimes I make apple-berry crisp for my husband and it is delicious.
Its delicious because I use *Linnie’s recipe.
Mom recipes are the best. Period.

*Linnie's Apple Crumb
6 apples, sliced
1/2 cups sugar
1/4 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp lemon juice
Combine and put in buttered casserole dish.

1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup flour
1/8 tsp salt
6 tbsp butter
Mix until crumbly. Pour over apples.

Bake at 350 for about 50 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
So simple, and easy to tweak or ad lib. This go around, I added about a pint of raspberries to the apple mixture- give or take a few that were lost to the hubbie pre-baking. I also always fail to have lemon juice on hand, so I see that ingredient as rather optional. Don't skimp on the butter though- it is rich, delicious, and quite worth it.

  3. I made a very similar crisp a couple of nights ago...but I am gluten free so I didn't add very much gluten free flour and added almond meal instead it was nutty and FANTASTIC.
