At every meal, I wonder- is this the last thing I'll eat before I become a mom? I do that with almost everything at this point. Is this the last time I'll vacuum while pregnant? Is this our last Office episode before labor kicks in? I have yo-yo-ed from unbearably excited to pitifully sad that we have still not met our baby. Yet, in the midst of the crazy, hormone-induced, emotions I try to simultaneously acknowledge the things I will miss when the next part of our story begins.
Numero uno on the list? My belly is awesome. Like, seriously awe-some. It is so incredibly round and baby is constantly barreling around in there, showing off. I know I will miss the wonder of what my body looks like right now...especially in the aftermath of birth, when I'm squishy and tired and sore (and still, let's be real, probably pretty round in the belly region). So, when I get pouty that baby is still holding out, cozied up in utero, I pull up my shirt and take a gander in the mirror. Then, I shamelessly squeal in delight as I watch the impression of baby's foot slide across the curve of my belly. I can't wait to kiss that foot in person, but for now, this is pretty incredible consolation.
Random side note? Something I have loved while pregnant and look forward to basically living in for a while post-pregnancy? This robe. It was a Christmas gift from my parents and it served me well before my belly was enormous, right up to these final, bulging days. It is soft and warm, while not being stifling. The sleeves are elbow length so you don't have to fuss with rolling them up to eat or write a letter. Also, we haven't had to bleach it at all thus far, even with muddy dog jumps and food spills, but that it is white is consolation that if/when I stain it, we can just toss it in the wash with some bleach. My suggestion? If you don't know what to get a mom in your life for Mother's Day, this robe is a pretty flawless choice (especially since we're being thrown into another chilly spell here in New England).
Hmm...is this my last blog post pre-baby?
