downeast

I don't really have memories from living in Maine from the age of 2 to nearly 5. More truly, I have familiarity- a resonance with part of my family's past, too early in my life for me to know and claim. Still, it was a place I was glad to have a chance to share with Jake, especially because Jake is now part of my family, and we're our own little family unit too. I wanted Maine to be a shared familiarity, and wanted him to know this bit of the Kurczy narrative.

And, not to mention, it was just a lovely weekend away. J&M must be our downright funniest friends. They are good, generous, full-spirited people, who appreciate good food, drink, and some intermittent, independent quiet too.  A weekend away with friends, and I actually got 6 pages of my thesis written. True story- I broke the ice and dove in [to writing], while looking out the windows at the beautiful, downeast Maine coastline. And I came back rested too, feeling a little more ready to take on the stress in my life that has been making me grind my teeth and chew my cheeks raw. I want to cling to the quiet of this weekend, and continue to carve out that kind of needed mental space.
