love/joy // 4

A particularly kind classmate asked me, in the most sincere way, how I was and if I had anything new on my plate right now. It was during the break of our four hour class, which meant it was already nearing 9pm, after full days of work for both of us, and then three hours of class to boot. I was sitting alone outside the classroom.  She sat down beside me on the bench, her eating honey wheat pretzels and me eating pasta fagioli from next door. We were quickly talking about things no one in my grad program knows about me. I felt honestly cared for in a way I hadn't yet experienced in that setting.

My sister emailed me asking for help on something. My sister is six years my elder, and is the National Honor Society one of our siblings. She has her Masters. She has a loving husband, two kids, and as of lately, a house too. In my mind, my sister does me favors, not the other way around. She cheers me on in my work, picks me up from class in Boston, listens to my stories, and often even feeds me. So, when I opened an email asking for a simple, little task, I was joyfully reminded of the relationship that has really blossomed between us in the last couple years. We're in this whole new place as friends. I may not be able to provide much of the advice, input, etc. that she needs, but I can help her pick out a running outfit for a race. Huzzah!

How have you experienced love and joy this week? If you feel so inclined, leave your love/joy in the comments- I'd love to read them. Or, better yet, feel free to link up and share the love/joy. Grab the button from the sidebar.

  1. How nice of your classmate to take time to ask how you are doing. It's about the little things, right?

  2. Every morning my husband makes the coffee while I'm in the shower. A piping hot cup of java greats me while I dry my hair. Nothing says love to me like the small gestures of care in the everyday

    1. That sounds wonderful. My husband and I don't have a set morning routine, but I totally agree that it is all about the small gestures. Too often people wait for big gestures to appreciate their spouse, friend, familiy, etc. but if we're thankful for the small ones, everyone is filled with so much more contentment!

  5. So much love and joy this week. I had surgery on Wednesday, and my best cousin came to stay with me for a couple of days. She totally didn't have to do it - even went out of her way if you ask me. She recently had foot surgery and is still wearing a "boot," but she was there the whole surgery to keep my mom company and here at home to help take care of me while hubby went to work. LOVE her to death, and I made sure to let her know it. :)

    1. That's so great! I'm sorry to hear you had to have surgery, but having someone with you through the whole ordeal- what a relief and a blessing! Go family!
