One of my favorite students [I admit it. I totally have favorites.] sings the most surprising songs at auditions. He is 13 and picks songs I am shocked he even knows. Never mind just knowing the songs though, this kid can move me with how he sings the craziest of lyrics. Last year he managed to make me cry singing "I Believe I Can Fly." This weekend, he gave me chills by singing "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley. Seriously? I got totally RickRoll'D.
I do love this music video. It is random, funny, and completely innocent. That darling Rick Astley and his arms moving side to side? Quality dancing, right there. Now imagine a 13 year old boy auditioning for a musical by singing this song. And he's not just mumbling the words in an embarrassed fashion- this student GOES FOR IT, and I had goosebumps over "Never Gonna Give You Up."
Best audition weekend ever.
