I've compared my Grandpa to James Dean. I also love to compare my Grandpa to Bing Crosby. Good ol' Bing has this amiable, warm, endearing way. There's something about his pace and stature that I just absolutely love in his movies. And his voice? Ahhh, Bing Crosby. His voice is like butter. It melts and slides, so silky smooth, and leaves such a sweet, rich aftertaste.
Did you know he introduced the song White Christmas to the world? No, seriously. And what better voice to introduce it? We watched the movie on Thanksgiving- all nine of us curled up in our tiny living room, me practically swooning over every dance number and Crosby song- and it reaffirmed my love for lots of things: Bing Crosby, the movie White Christmas, cozy movie watching...
But seriously, Bing and the song. It is THE best-selling single of all time. Crazy, right? According to Guinness World Records, Crosby's recording of "White Christmas" has "sold over 100 million copies around the world, with at least 50 million sales as singles." Also- and I'm getting this from Wikipedia by the way- Crosby was dismissive of his role in the song's success, saying later that "a jackdaw with a cleft palate could have sung it successfully." So yes, he's humble to boot. Love.
